Cloudy, overcast skies and occasional showers during the day threatened to cancel the racing action at Natural Bridge Speedway this past Saturday night. But the weather held off and Natural Bridge Speedway welcomed the Virginia Sprint Series to the 3/8ths mile clay oval for the final time in 2015. Six divisions were in action and two stories captured the headlines. First, Waynesboro’s Joey Leavell returned to Victory Lane in the late model division, taking over the lead on lap fifteen of the thirty-lap feature. The other big storyline was the domination of Michael Taylor Racing. Three Michael Taylor Racing cars picked up feature wins this past weekend. They were Mike Lawhorne, Derek Wright, and Michael Taylor. Other winners included Glen Almond in the All-American division and Jerald Harris was victorious in the Virginia Sprint Series feature.
Labor Day weekend marks the unofficial end to the summer season. It also means that the racing season at Natural Bridge Speedway is beginning to wind down. There are just five weekends of racing remaining in the 2015 season, including the annual Fall Classic event coming up the first weekend in October. This past weekend NBS celebrated the Labor Day holiday weekend with six divisions in action. The Good Ole Boys Vintage Racing Series joined the five weekly divisions on the racing program. This week’s winners were Logan Roberson, Roger Robertson, Sr., Michael Lawhorne, Mike Brogan, and Jonathan Burnette.
Perfect weather and a perfect racing surface set the stage for a thrilling night of racing this past weekend at Natural Bridge Speedway. The track hosted regular feature events for all five weekly divisions to round out the month of August. It is hard to believe that there are just six weekends of racing left in the 2015 season. Though the battle for the point championships are all but settled the racing seems to get better week after week. The winners this week were Greg Roberson, Michael Taylor, Mike Lawhorne, Brandon Link, and Michael Demmers.
The weather was absolutely perfect for late August Saturday night at Natural Bridge Speedway. Fans were treated to a special late model event, featuring the Fastrac Crate Late Model Series, and a huge sportsman field with action packed racing. With the fall season just around the corner, it is easy to get caught up in going back to school and football season. However, there is still plenty of racing remaining in 2015 at NBS. Though there are only seven weekends remaining in the season, there are a number of special events remaining including the Fall Classic featuring the super late models.
